The Tactical Plan
A strategic plan describes the goals for WHAT is to be accomplished.
A tactical plan comprises the individual actions for HOW the strategic plan is realized.

The 2010 Tactical Plan
--- Economic Impact Analysis Completed ---

The major goal in 2010 was to conduct an Economic Impact Analysis of rehabilitating Schell Bridge for recreational and pedestrian use. Such a study assesses how the rehabilitation and subsequent increased visitor spending would benefit the local and regional economies, through increased economic activity such as job creation, additional business activity, and other economic endeavors of various kinds.

The Center for Economic Development at the University of Massachusetts was commissioned in the summer of 2010 to conduct this study, and the final report completed in the spring of 2011. Click HERE to see the report.

The 2011 Tactical Plan

The major goal in 2011 is to conduct a Professional Bridge Rehabilitation Assessment for Schell Bridge. This study will determine what the engineering options are for rehabilitating the bridge for recreational and pedestrian use, and the approximate cost of each option.

FSB estimates such a study will cost $50,000-$60,000 and proposes that the state provide funds for it. To this end FSB has arranged (via petition of town residents) to place an article on the 2011 September 26 Northfield special town meeting requesting the selectboard to petition the state for the needed funds.
